Weebly is a user-friendly tool that allows you to create your own website, blog and/or online store. You can drag and drop images and text onto your page and then publish it. You can also create, manage and edit your website with iPhone, iPad and Android applications.

  • Weebly as a tool

Reflect on the various ways that Weebly could be used in the educational, training, or personal learning environments. From your selected perspective, describe two different examples where Weebly could be integrated and used. In both cases, explain why Weebly could positively impact learning.

Use the open text area to submit your reflective response. As a suggestion, you may want to first compose your response in a word processed document, check for all editing that needs to be completed, save your response so that you can access it later, if needed, and then copy and paste your response in the open text area for this challenge.

I currently use Weebly in my classroom as a hub for project information, general information and resources that are relevant to my classroom. I send parents, other teachers and students here regularly to access information regarding my classroom. Although we use Google Classroom as a LMS, we previously did not have a LMS for elementary students, Most of used Weebly as a make-shift LMS. However now that we have all shifted to Google Classroom, we still maintain Weebly for additional information.

It is a great way to share information. You can use weebly for portfolios or as an online resume. I have also made a weebly website and included it at the bottom of a resume for employers to see some of my design skills.
I also had students create their own weebly accounts to share information. It is great to use as an alternate assessment piece. Students were to write a myth that was Greek-like and then bring it to life using visuals and host the project on weebly.com

    2. Go to the Weebly website to get started
      • Select ‘Sign Up' (or Log In if you already have an account).
      • Input your information to create your account.
      • Select a theme for your site.
      • Choose a subject for your site (i.e., what you want your website to be about – e.g., integrate your course theme as the subject).
      • Choose your website domain. Select the option to use a subdomain of Weebly.com. Give your subdomain a name appropriate for your subject or give it your own name. Your subdomain name should easily connect you/your project to the site.
      • Go to ‘Settings’ and change the title of your site to something appropriate to your subject.
    3. Complete each of the following:
      • Create at least 3 pages in addition to the home page
        • The home page should greet the viewer and may include a video of you explaining the site and the key elements.
        • One page needs to be an ‘About’ page. For example, a brief resume may be important on this page.
      • Add appropriate text, titles, images, etc to your pages.  Write summaries/short clarifications to explain what each of the elements are that you add to these pages.
    4. Integrate these additional elements into your website:
      • At least 1 heading must be used.
      • At least 1 link to an external website/page.
      • Integrate a minimum of 2 related images that capture attention and add to the clarity of your message/information.
      • Embed at least one appropriate video (e.g., YouTube, Vimeo).
      • Add at least one element in the “More” category (e.g., Block Quote, Social Icons, RSVP Form, etc.).
      • Add at least 1 social feed to your site on an appropriate page.
        • Go to "Add App"
        • Choose View Apps under Get Social
    5. Ensure Quality Design
      • Navigation is logical. It is easy for a user to navigate the site and find the information they are looking for.
        • All links work and navigate to the appropriate link/page.
      • Organization of pages is neat and clear. They are immediately understood by user.
        • Use titles, appropriate heading formats, and line spacing to organize your text on the page.
        • When appropriate, use sub-headings.
        • Heading sizes for each level should be consistent throughout the site.
        • Extra spacing between sections should be used when needed
      • The content delivers clear, concise, focused information about the teaching experiences, capabilities and skills of the site author.
        • The body of your text should be aligned left most of the time. Avoid centered text, except possibly for captions and titles. However, even for captions and title, left aligned text will often look better. Occasionally right aligned text is appropriate.
      • Site looks professional. The colors, fonts, background enhance your content rather than distract from it.
    6. Publish your site using the publish button in the top right.
    7. Post the link to your published site (not to the designer/developer site) to this challenge submission.
